The spirit of Run Jericho
Organised by volunteers
In 2008, parents at St Barnabas Primary School started the first Run Jericho race, to raise money for the school and create links to the Jericho and Oxford community. 10 runs later, and Run Jericho is still going strong, the baton being handed down to new parents at the school, supported by the PTA and the School.
We always need willing helpers, whether you can spare 30 minutes before the event to mark out the course, or spend the morning as a marshal … every little helps!
Raising money for St Barnabas Primary School
Since race 1, Run Jericho has raised over £100,000 for the School, this has been invested in:
- Playground equipment used by the school and the community
- Chromebooks
Local community
The races loop around the beautiful local community of Jericho, Oxford. Locals can be heard cheering on and supporting the runners as they race around the streets.
The school shares its main play ground with local residents after school hours, and money raised has helped improve these facilities so that the school as well as the local community can benefit from it!
Ecologically minded
St Barnabas Primary School is an Eco school, and encourages students to think about a range of areas including waste reduction, energy saving, healthy living, water, biodiversity, transport and travel. Run Jericho also aspires to be an Eco event. Please consider bringing your own bottle, and to arrive at the event by foot, bike or public transport if this is possible.
The organisers always go around the course after the race has finished to make sure that all areas have been cleaned of any rubbish and are in great condition, especially in Port Meadow.
We’re open to any green ideas you may have, so please get in touch!
